  • Reception and Year 1
    Year 2 and Year 3
    Year 4 to Year 6

    Year 10 and Year 11 (GCSE)
    Year 12 and Year 13 (A Level)

  • Oil, watercolour, acrylic, pastel, crayon, pencil or ink, only original work accepted - no photographs or computer generated images and no writing on the picture. Collage is not encouraged but may be accepted at the discretion of the judges. No glitter at all and no canvas or board before Year 9.

  • Reception to Year 6 - A4

    Year 7 to Year 9 - Up to A3

    Year 10 to Year 13 - Any size that is easily transportable

  • Reception to Year 6
    Art Competition only, one per pupil accompanied by £2.00 entry fee - not less than 10 in any one age group.

    Year 7 to Year 13
    Art, Drawing and Printmaking Competitions

    Students may enter all three categories - one entry in each competition - therefore an opportunity for three entries per student. £2.00 to accompany each entry.
    Coursework will be accepted but must be clearly marked “COURSEWORK”.

  • Name, year group, school, date of birth and “Art Competition”, “Drawing Competition” or “Printmaking Competition” must be clearly marked in BLOCK CAPITALS on the back of each entry.

  • All entries must be received by Friday, 19th January 2024

  • Art Competition - First, second and third for each age category up to Year 11.

    The Vice Chancellor’s Prize for a picture by an A Level student, selected by Dr Paul Thompson, Vice Chancellor of the Royal College of Art.

    The Frayling Prize selected by Professor Sir Christopher Frayling, former Rector of the Royal College of Art

    Drawing Prize - Selected by Eileen Cooper OBE RA

    Printmaking Prize - Selected by Professor Chris Orr MBE RA

  • Exhibitors will be notified after the judging in February 2024 - the number of pictures exhibited from a particular school will depend on the number submitted by that school.

  • All pictures at the Exhibition can be bid on, the proceeds of which will go direct to specific research into childhood cancers undertaken at UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health. The pictures will be delivered to the relevant school after the Exhibition. Parents have first refusal when there is an outside bid for their child’s picture.

    It is expected that successful candidates will visit the Exhibition and have the unique experience of both viewing their work on display at the RCA and meeting the judge who selected it.
